Try this delicious just-bitter-enough frothy cherry-chocolate smoothie. Don’t mind the Sam Adams glass, It was the perfect size for this small smoothie. I saw a cherry smoothie on my friend Tracy’s blog a little while ago, and I didn’t give it a try because I never buy cherries. Last week I received a pint of cherries in my CSA so I decided to try them in a smoothie. My friends left a bag of raw cacao at our house, so I decided to try mixing the two ingredients together. Cherry+chocolate= magic!
I had to pit all the cherries by hand before tossing them in the blender, If someone knows a better way to do this please pass that knowledge along! It was messy and time consuming for the amount of cherries I ended up using. In addition to the cherry and chocolate powder (cacao) I threw in a frozen banana for body and a half cup of apple juice to get things mixing. I chose apple juice over orange juice because it is slightly less acidic, and acidic flavors don’t always mix well with chocolate. #foodscience
Cherry Chocolate Smoothie |
- 1/2 cup pitted cherries
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 tbsp cacao
- 1/2 cup apple juice
- place ingredients in blender and blend until completely mixed
This recipe only makes about a 6-8 oz smoothie, so feel free to double it for two servings or if you want more! I thought a small portion was perfect for this rich flavor.
